Bill Dexter is an internationally recognized risk management consultant and trainer and the former Director of the California Center for Construction Education for the College of Architecture and Environmental Design at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. His overall experience in construction activities spans 40 years as a craftsman, business owner, contractor, consultant, educator, and trainer.

His television special "Doing It Right" on establishing a code of ethics for contractors, produced in cooperation with the California Contractors State License Board has set new standards for customer service within the state. Bill authored the book and seminar for the victims of California forest fires entitled HAVING IT BUILT and has published numerous articles in national professional trade magazines on risk management for architects, developers and builders.

He is the editor for the Cold-Formed Light Gauge Steel Framing Manual for the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and co-author, with attorney Mary S. Jones, of the Contractors Guide to Writing Effective Contracts.

Projects

"From Ferrari World Abu Dhabi to the Kuwait Gulf Oil Company, Bill has provided project analysis..."

Bill's research over the past six years has focused on the materials and methods used during the renovation of historical buildings in the old city of Havana (Vieja), Cuba. The results of that effort have been presented to the Cuban-American architects in Miami, Florida at their annual Design Technology Exposition 2005 and to the Southern Florida Chapter of the ASID in Boca Raton, Florida. In 2006, Bill co-presented with M. Scott Radovich to the Construction Specifications Institute a program on the challenges confronting the restoration efforts in Havana of the historical architectural treasures and to the Associated Scholastic Colleges of Architecture in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Recent activities include project management analysis and constructability of drawings for Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, UAE. The project is the world's largest indoor amusement park. Additionally, conducted project management training for the senior engineers of the Kuwait Gulf Oil Company on preventing contract claims and alternative dispute resolution language in contracts.
